Age 15

Afroz lives in the slum community of Bhiwandi with his family in a rented house. His father works on a power loom and earns a monthly salary of $60. His mother works hard to take care of the family and does pearl beading to meet the daily expenses. His mother makes around 60 cents a day.

His siblings help his mother with daily household chores and pearl beading. Even though his parents were aware of the benefits of education, he had to discontinue his education after 8th grade because of the conditions at home.

Now young Afroz is an active student in Udaan and dreams of becoming a police officer one day.
