Age 16

Aarju's father works in a handloom mill, where he gets paid less than $4 per day, and her mother does pearl stringing work earning less than $2 per day. They live in the slum community of Bhiwandi. Aarju is the eldest of 4 sisters and shares responsibilities with her parents to care for her younger sisters. Aarju and her sister had previously dropped out of school but were registered by their mother for Udaan, where they consistently attend class. They even showed interest in pursuing higher education. Aarju loves to learn English at Udaan.

She wants to work as a police detective someday to help make the world safer. Aarju likes to help everyone in need, and her main goal for the future is to provide a good education for her sisters and build a house for her parents to live comfortably. She needs a sponsor to help her continue her education and pursue her goals.
