Arbaz lives in a small hut in the Bhiwandi slums with his father, mother, and 6 siblings. Arbaz's father is married to 2 women and refuses to work, staying home and drinking and abusing the family instead. Arbaz, the eldest of the family, is responsible for making ends meet, so he and his brother work in a garment factory. Since he was 9 years old, he has worked, earning $5-6 a week. Along with the poverty of his household, Arbaz's dysfunctional family situation caused him to give up on his education.

Now, Arbaz comes to Udaan and goes to work after classes. His younger sister also has enrolled in Udaan. His family dynamics are the root of many of his behavioral issues. However, Arbaz wants to fulfill his dream of continuing his education and getting into a good position in the future.
