Age 14

Falak lives in Bhiwandi, India, with her family of 7 members. Falak’s father works in a company and earns around $120. Her mother does pearl beading at home to help manage the family’s daily expenses. Falak’s mother has various health issues, including diabetes, and the family suffered the tragic loss of Falak’s younger brother when he was 1 year old due to collapsed lungs. The family finds it difficult to manage her mother’s medical costs with only one consistent source of income in their house.

After completing 8th grade, Falak discontinued her studies as there was no nearby school, and her parents were unwilling to send Falak to a faraway school.

Now Falak attends Udaan regularly and wants to one day become a teacher.
