Age 8

Mehek lives in a slum community in India with her family of 7 members. Due to the unavailability of work in their village, her family moved to Bhiwandi, near Mumbai. Mehek’s father works as a laborer on the construction site and earns up to $120 a month. Her mother does pearl beading at home and earns around 50 cents daily. They live in a rented house, and her parents work hard to provide for them.

Mehek had been attending school and completed 2nd grade while they were living in the village, but once in Bhiwandi, she was unable to attend school until her enrollment in Udaan.

Mehek is a clever student and loves to attend Udaan classes. She wants to become a doctor one day and is a delightful child.
