Age 15

Shabaz lives with his parents and 4 older brothers in Bhiwandi, India. Shabaz’s older brothers are working, and their income supports the household while their parents work from home in bead/pearl work, fetching them less than $2.50 a day. At a young age, he and his brothers began taking responsibility for running the home.

Shabaz attended school until 8th grade, but they returned to their village during the Covid lockdown, and his education ceased until Udaan.

Shabaz’s dream is to become a doctor. His family is working hard to help him accomplish this dream. Shabaz is an intelligent student; he takes a great interest in learning English and participates in all the activities at Udaan.
