Age 14

Fatema lives in Bhiwandi, India, outside of Mumbai, with her parents and 7 sisters in a small house. Her only brother became sick and died a few years ago. Fatema's father works in a loom factory and earns $6 a day, and her mother cares for the family at home.

Fatema studied until the 7th grade and left school. Her older sisters go to work to support the family. Fatema's mother wants her daughters to be educated, but due to sickness, there is a constant medical need, and her daughters must work to help support their large family financially.

When Fatema first started attending Udaan, she was very quiet and soft-spoken, but as the days went by, she began making friends with everyone and participating in class activities. Her dream is to become a teacher.
