Soyan lives in the Bhiwandi slum area with his parents, 3 sisters, and 2 brothers. Soyan's father used to drive an auto-rickshaw but was in an accident 2 years ago that fractured his leg. He used to earn around $6 daily, but after the accident, there was no one to support them financially until Soyan's mother started working at a company for about $5.50 a day.

Since coming to Udaan, the usually-quiet Soyan has begun to open up and mentioned he wants to become a teacher because his brothers also want to become teachers. Soyan intends to follow in their footsteps but needs a sponsor to support his continuing education and future.
