Age 7
Shirin lives in the Bhiwandi slum area with a family of 8 members staying in a rented house. Her father was an auto-rickshaw driver until 3 years ago when her father met with an accident. Shirin’s mother used to be a street vendor and sold vegetables near the market, but since her father’s accident, he has been bedridden, so her mother took over the financial responsibility of the entire family and is the sole breadwinner.
Shirin’s parents were not educated but wanted their children to learn and grow up to have a bright future. Sadly, their financial situation has prevented the children from attending school.
Shirin shares everything she learns in Udaan with her family. Her ambition is to become a doctor one day, and she is pleased to attend Udaan classes every day.
