Age 15

Zaid lives with his family in the slum community of Bhiwandi. His father works as a loom operator in a factory; Zaid's mother stays at home and takes care of the children.
His father has been unable to keep up with household expenses because of the financial strain of medical treatment for Zaid's mother, who is ill. She has undergone several surgeries and is very weak. His younger brother is also ill.
Zaid used to go to a private school but was forced to drop out because of his family's financial situation. Zaid had a great desire to attend school and learn, so when he learned about Udaan from his friends and neighbors, he enrolled. He attends classes at Udaan regularly to learn spoken English and computers. His dream is to become an Engineer and provide for his family, but Zaid needs financial support in order to pursue his dream.
