Age 8

Raushni lives in Bhiwandi with her parents and 6 siblings. Her father is a loom worker, but due to old age, he cannot work consistently and earns around $120 a month.

Raushni’s mother suffers from kidney stones. She needs surgery, but they cannot afford it due to their financial situation. Before attending Udaan, Raushni had never been to school because the family could not provide for the children’s education.

Raushni had a twin brother who died due to malnutrition when he was just 17 days old. Sadly, Raushni’s youngest sibling was given up for adoption to manage expenses from her mother’s cesarean operation during her birth.

Raushni has already had challenges in her young life, but when asked what she aspires to be when she grows up, she smiles big and says her dream is to become a police officer.
